Single Parenting Dating Tips

You have met another single parent through an online dating site. You really like this person, maybe have even met them face to face.  You think that you are developing a good relationship with this person, but you just aren't sure.  What should you look for when evaluating your relationship?  How do you know if you have a good online dating relationship?  While there can be many different things that can go into making that determination, there are three important factors that you need to consider.

1. Do you have a lot to talk about?  When getting to know someone new you shouldn't be afraid to ask them questions.  How do they respond when you ask them questions? Are they open about themselves or do you get the feeling that they are trying to hide things or are uncomfortable sharing?  Of course it works the other way as well.  Are you open with the other person when they ask you questions? Communication is the most important factor in any relationship.

2. Do you have a lot in common?  This doesn't mean that you have to like to do the same things all the time.  It is more about the bigger aspects of life.  Do you have similar spiritual beliefs? Do you have similar life goals?  Religious and family issues fall right in line behind money as the largest sources of disharmony in relationships.  They can be overcome, but it takes a lot of work right from the beginning of the relationship.

3. Do you think about each other a lot?  Now don't get this confused with being obsessive. Continually fixating on someone is a very bad thing and not what we are talking about here. You aren't thinking about the person all of the time, but when you get an idle moment does a thought of them pop into your head and make you smile?  Do you feel good when you think about the things you have done together?  Are you anticipating the next time you will be together?  Those types of things are all healthy.

4. Do the children like this person (and vice versa)? This is a very important issue to think about as dating another single parent would actually involve another kid into your picture. This is an important job for both sides and so be tactful about addressing your kids about the person you are intending to date with.

So, after considering all four of those things do you have a good online dating relationship?  Do you communicate well, always having things to talk about?  Do you have the same life goals?  Does thinking about the other person bring that little smile to your face that makes other people wonder what you are thinking about?  If you have all three of those things then then you have a good online dating relationship.  Have fun with it and enjoy life.
